About This Album

#1 Record is the 1972 debut studio album by American rock band Big Star (Alex Chilton and Chris Bell), originally released April 24, 1972 by Ardent Records distributed by Stax Records. Though it sold fewer than 10,000 copies on first release due to Stax’s collapsing distribution, the album became a foundational text of power pop and jangly guitar pop, and is now widely cited as one of the most influential rock records of the 1970s. Produced by John Fry at Ardent Studios in Memphis. 12 tracks. Featuring the cult classics “In the Street” (later the theme for That ’70s Show), “Thirteen,” “The Ballad of El Goodo,” and “Feel.”
