About This Album

Jaco Pastorius’s self-titled solo debut, first released in 1976, returns on 140-gram black vinyl as part of Music On Vinyl’s Groove Classics collection (February 2026). Recorded when the Weather Report bassist was just 24, this landmark redefined the electric bass through his fretless technique and harmonics, with a stellar cast including Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Sam & Dave. It opens with the bebop showcase Donna Lee and features the unaccompanied bass masterpiece Portrait of Tracy.
