About This Album

Joy Division's second and final studio album Closer, released July 18, 1980 via Factory Records — released just two months after the tragic suicide of lead singer and lyricist Ian Curtis, at age 23, on the eve of the band's debut American tour. Produced by Martin Hannett, the Manchester post-punk pioneers' haunting swan song features the iconic Peter Saville-designed sleeve, and includes Atrocity Exhibition, Isolation, and Twenty Four Hours. After Curtis's death, the remaining members continued as New Order.
