MTV Unplugged in New York is the live album recorded by Nirvana on November 18, 1993 at Sony Music Studios, New York City, for MTV’s Unplugged series. Originally released November 1, 1994 via DGC Records, the performance is widely regarded as one of the greatest live recordings in rock history. The set departs from the band’s electric sound, featuring acoustic guitars and covers of songs by David Bowie (The Man Who Sold the World), Lead Belly (Where Did You Sleep Last Night), Meat Puppets (Lake of Fire, Plateau, Oh, Me), and The Vaselines (Jesus Doesn’t Want Me for a Sunbeam). Won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 1996.

About This Pressing

This is the 25th Anniversary Edition, released November 1, 2019 via Geffen Records. The first-ever pressing of the album as a double LP. Expanded to include five rehearsal performances previously only available as DVD bonus content: Polly, Pennyroyal Tea, Come As You Are, Plateau, and an alternate take of The Man Who Sold the World. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl in an exclusive gatefold jacket with anniversary silver foil detail on both the front and back cover.
