South of Heaven is the fourth studio album by Slayer, originally released June 27, 1988. Produced by Rick Rubin — the band’s second collaboration with Rubin following Reign in Blood. The album deliberately shifted toward slower tempos and less distortion compared to Reign in Blood, prompting mixed initial reactions that have since given way to wide acclaim. 10 tracks. Recorded in 1987–1988.
