Sonny Stitt Blows the Blues is a studio album by jazz saxophonist Sonny Stitt, originally recorded December 21–22, 1959 at TTG Studios, Los Angeles, and released in 1960 on Verve Records (MG V-8374). Produced by Creed Taylor. With pianist Lou Levy, bassist Leroy Vinnegar, and drummer Mel Lewis. Playing alto sax throughout, Stitt demonstrates his powerful blues vocabulary with eight tracks including original compositions Hymnal Blues, Morning After Blues, and Blue Devil Blues, as well as the standards Blue Prelude, The Birth of the Blues, and Frankie and Johnny. AllMusic awarded the album 4 stars.
